Brooklyn Streetcar Artists' Group Inaugural Meeting

Dear members and prospective members of Brooklyn City Artists’ Group,

Our apologies for the tardiness of this letter. For those who were unable to attend our inaugural meeting at Coney Island Hospital on September 8, the minutes are included below. As you can see, we have decided on dues of $50 annually, with those joining as charter members before October 1 paying only $40. We have since extended the charter period until October 17, shortly before the opening of our exhibition at the New York Aquarium. All annual memberships will extend until December 31, 2009. Since performers have very different needs, we have decided that at present they can sign up as members with no dues payment.

We at last have the final guidelines for the Aquarium exhibition. The theme will be "aquatic" but it’s very loose. It can include a wide range and all media is welcome. Don’t fear but submit what you feel is closest to the theme for review. Some who thought they had nothing to submit were surprised when we saw some of their work and found it to be within the limits. (Water [ocean, river, lake, pool, tank, shore], animals [in or near water], Coney Island, various abstracts or just use your imagination.) The tentative dates to review submissions for the show are Thursday, October 2 at 4:00 PM. Saturday, October 4 at 2:00 PM and Monday, October 6 at 4:00 PM, all at the Aquarium. When the dates are finalized, you will receive a confirmation email with directions. Entry to the facility will be free as well as parking for those submitting their work. Please submit only pictures of your work with specifications. After our committee goes over the submissions, they must be reviewed by the Director of the Aquarium.

We have also been searching for additional venues to display and possibly sell and have some great possibilities. All shows are members only so please submit your dues as soon as possible. If you are not included in any one particular show, you will be included in others. We are trying to make this into an all around organization that always takes into account the needs of its members.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing all of your great work!

Brooklyn Streetcar Artists’ Group is part of Brooklyn City Streetcar Company, Inc., a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation registered in the State of New York. This gives us immediate status as a public charity, allowing us to seek funding immediately.
Needs: Education committee, fund raising and grant writers, website designers, corporate sponsors.

Collection of dues: Charter members registering for one year in Sept. will pay $40.00. As of Oct. 1, 2008, dues will be assessed at $50.00 for a yearly membership.

CURRENT:
Exhibition at NY Aquarium commencing in October 2008. Details will follow as to dates and possible rotation schedule. We will receive free promotion. Submission of work will begin shortly. Future shows will be themed; the first will be open.

FUTURE:
We are currently looking at different venues for next year’s big show and places for smaller exhibitions.

DISCUSSION:
Q : When will members will be able to view the space available for the show?
A: Dates will be announced

Q: Has BSAG had any previous shows?
A: Under the banner of parent company, Brooklyn City Streetcar Company, Inc. there have been two shows; one outside Keyspan Park last October and a large show in Keyspan this past June. Included in the June show were over 60 artists displaying their work for sale and 5 musical groups. We had approx. 1000 attendees including politicians, cable network promoters, and viewers despite the horrendously hot weather.

Q: How often are meetings?
A: We have not yet determined a schedule but plan meetings on a regular basis; more often when preparing for shows. You will be notified by email. If you have changed your email address or have any other important information, please notify Kgenevieve@aol.com immediately. This will alleviate any problems in communication.

Q: Is member registration open to others outside the Brooklyn area?
A: Yes BSAG has no residency requirements.

Q: Will there be security provided at the Aquarium?
A: The Aquarium will provide security.

Q: If an artist group joins BSAG membership, will the entire group be considered as one entity?
A: No. Each member is considered individually.

CURRENT PROSPECTS:
We are currently searching for new venues not only in Coney Island but in all other areas of Brooklyn. We are a non-profit organization.
